Everyone is slowly waking up to the effects we all have on global warming. We are all encouraged to recycle, to use less energy and the use greener energy. In order to do all of these things we need our supplier of gas and electricity to help us. If our energy supplier uses greener energy we can carry on with our normal lives and our carbon footprint will be reduced. Also if the energy suppliers can give advice on how to use energy more efficiently, that will too help us to reduce our individual carbon footprint. British Gas, N Power and Powergen are the top energy suppliers to UK homes. In order to find out who is the greenest supplier we need to find out what energy they are currently supplying, what are their future energy plans and how they are helping people at home to use less energy. British Gas claim to be the leading installer of energy efficient products and are currently working very hard to supply low carbon dioxide emission energy. They seem to be very involved with greener energy projects and investing a lot of time and money into greener energy. British Gas will spend £130,000 on wind farms to provide their energy. They have also invested £750 million in renewable energy that will be supplied in to households across the UK. British Gas hopes that their efforts will be able to save each household money and energy. The wind farm energy could save each household 0.5 tonnes of gas which is the equivalent of driving a family car for 2 months. The British gas website has lots of advice on how to reduce energy use and cost. For example insulating your home can cut your bill up to £345. Information on energy saving boilers and solar panels are also provided. British Gas sells energy saving gadgets on their website like eco balls for washing machines, solar shed lights and a standby saver. These are all little gadgets that can be used in the home and garden to save energy. These gadgets are all explained and sold on the British Gas websites. British Gas also offer a new tariff called Zero-carbon. For an extra £7 a month you will be supplied energy with no energy emissions and be an investor in green energy and green energy for schools. N Power has two projects they are working on with greener energy one is for the home and one is for businesses. The new home energy by N Power is called n power juice. This provides 100% renewable energy at no extra cost. 50,000 customers have signed up to this greener way to get energy. The N Power website also has information about using solar panels and energy saving advice. N power is also working towards greener businesses. The websites offers energy management advice and carbon footprint calculators for businesses. The new service is called e3 and if you sign up you get a free electrosave monitor and tools and advice that can reduce your bills by 25%. Powergen also has advice on the website about renewable energies and energy saving gadgets. These include light bulbs, an electrosave monitor and an energy save kettle. Powergen are also now offering a "go green dual fuel" offer. Every unit of electricity used by you they will match with a unit produced from a renewable source. This product will help to fundraise energy saving projects. It is good to see that all energy suppliers are aware of global warming and the effects its energy supply has on the environment. All companies have given information on renewable energies and how it will be used in the future. They all have given advice on how to save energy and new energy saving gadgets. They also all claim to offer a greener option supply of energy. This seems like a good idea but find it hard to believe they actually use 100% renewable energy. At the moment the UK only uses 2% renewable gases which are not enough to supply all the houses that want it. It is also interesting to find out what the suppliers are doing for the future of greener energy. They all seem to be working alongside the government to increase the amount of green energy that will be supplied in the future. British Gas was the only ones to provide actual figures for their green energy plans. £750 million will be invested by British gas to supply greener energy in to households. To find out more about energy saving there are other articles on this website.
